Practitioner Mirroring of FBT in a Collaborative Outpatient Level of Care

Abstract:
The practitioners will describe the use of collaborative (co-disciplinary) sessions for the purpose of coaching families with children with eating disorders. The presentation will describe the Coached Family, conjoint sessions and coaching using texts for the purpose of educating and training families to facilitate better treatment outcomes. The use of multiple professionals in sessions and meals will be described and how it discourages patient splitting. The treatment team including the physician, therapist and dietitian mirrors the family members and their respective roles in re-feeding the child. Attendees will be able to apply the learned model in their outpatient settings with the use of video or phone conferencing.
Learning Objectives:
- Attendees will learn how to use collaborative co-disciplinary sessions in an outpatient treatment settings during FBT
- Attendees will learn how to coach family members during a Family Meal
- Attendees will learn how to using texting to coach family members and clients for better adherence to treatment/meal plans
- Attendees will understand how to utilize the skills of an outpatient dietitian in FBT
