In the second webinar of our series spotlighting the unique needs of college students, we will approach the challenges faced by this population by concentrating on how the epidemic of sexual assault on campuses adds another layer to the multi-faceted causes for body image disturbances and use of disordered behaviors.
Discussion will highlight how the #MeToo movement has had an impact on the national mental health conversation on college campuses and in therapy offices. Without assigning blame to the victim, our focus will additionally approach the contributing effects of alcohol and other substances on sexual assault. Recommendations for sensitively treating the trauma of sexual assault while, simultaneously, addressing clients’ need to address their eating disorder will be discussed.
